Zeta Reticuli was a binary star system in the Sierra sector of the Beta Quadrant, just over 39 light-years from Sol, near the border of the Romulan Neutral Zone. It had at least five planetary bodies, and numerous moons.
In the 2150s, the United Earth Starfleet operated a space station in the system. (ENT novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing)
By the 23rd century, the system was of great interest to Federation archaeologists, as evidence of multiple ancient civilizations had been found there. The Zeta Reticuli Orbital Research Facility was built circa 2276 to study the ruins and conduct additional scientific and medical research. (Star Trek: Pendragon; TOS novel: The Romulan Way)
In the 24th century, Starfleet maintained underground laboratories on the system's fourth planet. (ST novel: Preserver)

- Two moons of one of the system's gas giants feature prominently in the Alien franchise.
- The ruins on Zeta Reticuli II have a decidedly "Egyptian" look, indicating that they may have been Goa'uld in origin.
