The USS Montana (NCC-1889) was an Archer-class Federation starship in the mid-23rd century. During the 2260s and 2270s, the Montana was outfitted as a courier, and most often assigned to ferry important diplomats and politicians to critical assignments.
Though Montana was a small vessel, a post as her commanding officer was considered an honor. In 2270, the position was held by Captain "Showboat" Haynes. (TOS novel: Savage Trade)
The Montana was no longer in service by 2272, when the name was bestowed upon another vessel. (Star Trek: The Continuing Mission)
