The Typhon Pact was an alliance formed between six interstellar states in opposition to the United Federation of Planets, Klingon Empire and their allies. The original signatories of the Pact were the Romulan Star Empire, Breen Confederacy, Tzenkethi Coalition, Gorn Hegemony, Tholian Assembly and the Holy Order of the Kinshaya. It was named for the Typhon Expanse, where the six powers met. (ST novel: A Singular Destiny)
The Typhon Pact was officially formed aboard the Typhon I space station in early 2381, though talks between the powers had been going on for several years at that point. (Star Trek: Typhon Pact novel: Rough Beasts of Empire)
Because of the power struggle initiated by the death of Praetor Tal'Aura, the Romulans quickly lost their standing in the Pact, especially when news of the impending supernova became public. Resentment towards the pact quickly grew within the Empire's halls of power, and was a core cause of dispute between the pro-Pact Taris and the anti-Pact Donatra and Sela.
Likewise, the assassination of the Gorn Imperator along with the Federation President in 2384, further destabilized the Pact. From that point on, the Breen, Tholians and Tzenkethi were considered the dominant powers within the group.
Background[]
- In the Destiny timeline, the formation of the Pact was in response to the expansion of the Khitomer Accords following the Borg invasion. The exact nature of the Pact in Pendragon continuity remains speculative, though it appears to be a more clandestine alliance than in the Litverse.
