Tigelis VII was a Class M planet in the Tiber sector of the Beta Quadrant. It was home to a Romulan colony, and renowned throughout the Romulan Star Empire for its natural beauty.
The colonial capital was the city of Ronikar, considered a shining example of Romulan architecture, with buildings and plazas said to rival those of Romulus itself. The city was home to a large community of artisans and craftspeople, and their work was commonly seen throughout the colony. Statues and sculptures were plentiful, and the wide, tree-lined streets were often filled with pedestrian traffic. The city was located on the shore of the Arex Sea, kept cool by constant ocean breezes and offering spectacular sunrises and many forms of aquatic recreation.
The nearby Jolannian Mountains provided a scenic backdrop, as well as opportunities to ride garthan, a native species used as mounts. Garthan resembled something like large mountain lions with mottled gray fur, and were quite sure-footed in the rocky terrain.
In the 2370s, the planet suffered an outbreak of Phyrox plague which quickly spread to other nearby worlds and resulted in the quarantine of the entire sector. With relief efforts ineffective, Ronikar was placed under military curfew, and the citizenry either huddled in their homes, or took to the streets in riots to protest and demand action from the government. All travel to and from Tigelis VII was forbidden, crippling the planet's once prosperous tourist industry and trapping many visitors who were unable to return home in time. The colony's representative, Senator Jollen Merek proposed the radical idea of seeking aid from the Federation, but the Romulan Senate rejected his plan.
