The Tarod sector (also known as Sector 30 or Sector 30-439) was a region of space in the Iota Pavonis sector block of the Beta Quadrant. Part of the sector was Federation territory, while the rest was within the Romulan Star Empire, with the Romlulan Neutral Zone dividing them. (Star Trek: Star Charts; TNG: "The Neutral Zone"; Star Trek Online)
To the galactic west, it was bordered by Sector Z-6, and coreward by the Lidara and Typhon sectors, all largely in Federation space. Further into Romulan territory, the Glintara and Devron sectors lay antispinward and rimward, respectively. (Star Trek: Star Charts)
On some two-dimensional map projections, Eisn, the homesun of Romulus, appeared to be in, or near the border of this sector, while actually being further away along the z-axis though broadly within the same "neighborhood" of sectors. (TOS: "Balance of Terror"; Star Trek Nemesis; Star Trek: Star Charts; Star Trek Online, et. al)
A number of the original Earth outposts constructed to monitor the Neutral Zone were located in the sector. Outpost 8 was among those destroyed during the Romulan incursion of 2266, though it was later rebuilt. (TOS: "Balance of Terror"; TNG: "The Defector")
Almost a century later, in 2364, the sector was the site of a Borg incursion, though their identity was unknown until the following year. A Borg vessel destroyed five Federation outposts, including one at Tarod IX, and a number of Romulan facilities on planets along the Neutral Zone. This incident ended the Romulans' period of isolation which began in 2311. (TNG: "The Neutral Zone", "Q Who?")
