Susanna Leijten was a 24th century human Starfleet officer. By the late 2360s, she served as first officer aboard the USS Victory under Captain Marien Zimbata. (TNG: "Identity Crisis")
Leijten was born on Earth in 2332, and attended Starfleet Academy from 2350 to 2354. Upon graduation, she was assigned as a security officer aboard the USS Orleans, where she was eventually promoted to lead the ship's search and rescue teams. She transferred to the Victory in 2359 as an operations officer. (Starship Creator)
Aboard the Victory, she became close friends with crewmates Tasha Yar and Geordi La Forge, the latter of whom she saw as a "little brother."
In 2362, Leijten led an away team to Tarchannen III, investigating the disappearance of 49 Starfleet personnel stationed at the outpost there. Leijten and her team, which included La Forge, were unable to find any trace of the personnel, and the search was eventually called off. (TNG: "Identity Crisis")
The following year, both Yar and La Forge transferred to the USS Enterprise at the request of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, while Leijten remained aboard the Victory under Captain Zimbata. (Starship Creator; TNG: "Identity Crisis", "Elementary, Dear Data", "Legacy"; TNG novel: The Buried Age)
Within a few years Leijten had been promoted to Lieutenant Commander and second officer. After the Victory suffered heavy casualties and damage at Battle of Wolf 359, Leijten assumed the duties of first officer, and oversaw the vessel's repairs and refit. (Starship Creator)
Later in 2367, Lt. Commander Leijten joined La Forge and the Enterprise on a mission to investigate the more disappearances at Tarchannen III. She began to mutate into an alien native to the planet, but the process was halted and reversed by Dr. Beverly Crusher. Leijten was then able to help recover La Forge, who had almost fully undergone the same metamorphosis. (TNG: "Identity Crisis")
After the incident, Leijten returned to the Victory, where she continued to serve as Captain Zimbata's XO through the end of the Dominion War. (conjecture)
