Starbase 91, 2385
Starbase 91 was a Watchtower-class Federation starbase. It was located in the Beta Quadrant, several light-years outside the Lembatta Cluster.
The station was constructed in 2275 to monitor the nearby Klingon Empire and Gorn Hegemony, and to coordinate Starfleet operations in the region. A deep space sensor array, Echelon 1 was positioned next to the starbase.
After the Khitomer Conference in 2293, Starbase 91's strategic value began to wane. Decades of relative silence from the Gorn, and the Romulan Star Empire's withdrawal into isolation in 2311 relegated it to a backwater post. The station's facilities were kept up to date for years, but eventually fell off the priority list and received little attention after 2335.
In 2382, construction was scheduled began on a new starbase at Cestus III, which would leave Starbase 91 as little more than a brief stopover for trade routes. By 2385, few vessels visited the station apart from freighters and starships assigned to patrol the Lembatta Cluster and nearby sectors. (Star Trek: Prometheus novel: Fire with Fire)
