Space whale or star whale were colloquial names for several species of cosmozoans which shared superficial resemblances to the marine mammals of Earth. Gormaganders, Titans, and Galeen were among the species to which the moniker was applied. (DSC: "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad"; TOS novel: Where Sea Meets Sky; Doctor Who: "The Beast Below", The Song of Megaptera)
Biomechanoids like the Leviathans of the Uncharted Territories and Gomtuu's extra-galactic species were sometimes loosely referred to as "space whales." Like the Titans, and occasionally the Galeen and star-jellies, they could serve as living starships. (Farscape; TNG: "Tin Man", "Encounter at Farpoint"; TTN novel: Orion's Hounds; Star Trek: Pendragon)
Much in the same way that Delphine and Streethians were called "space dolphins," the term "space whale" was also (incorrectly) applied to various of sapient marine species from various planets, like the Odanians, the Xindi-Aquatics, the unknown creators of the Cetacean probe, or even Earth whales that had been transported to space. (TNG novel: Dark Mirror; Template:SoT; Clear Skies; Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home; LDS: "Second Contact")
