Setlik III was the third planet of the Setlik system, located near the Federation-Cardassian border. Sometime before 2347, the Federation established an outpost and colony there. It fell within the Demilitarized Zone between the two powers in 2370. (TNG: "The Wounded")
In 2362, the Cardassian Union launched an unprovoked sneak attack on the colony, resulting in the Setlik III massacre. A full regiment of Cardassian ground troops camped in the Barrica Valley, until the planet was liberated by the USS Rutledge. The family of Rutledge Captain Benjamin Maxwell were among those killed during the massacre. (DS9: "Tribunal", "Empok Nor", TNG: "The Wounded")
In 2374, Setlik III was the site of another battle, when the Dominion attempted to wrest control of the system from the Federation at the height of the Dominion War. Starfleet successfully defended the planet and the system, but sustained heavy casualties and lost at least four starships. (SCE: War Stories)
