Sector Z-6 and the Romulan Neutral Zone
Sector Z-6 was a region of space in the Beta Quadrant of the Milky Way Galaxy, adjacent to the Bolarus and Tarod sectors. The majority of it was in Federation territory, though the Romulan Neutral Zone ran through area along the trailing edge. (TOS: "Balance of Terror"; Star Trek: Star Charts)
Along that side, the sector was bordered by the Tarod and Devron sectors across the Neutral Zone, with the Bolarus and Tango sectors rimward, and the Ivor and Typhon sectors towards the galactic core. Its antispinward edge lay on the Alpha Quadrant border. (Star Trek: Star Charts)
The Syrma and Mu Arae systems were located in the sector. By the mid-24th century, Starbase 718 was also active in the region. (TNG: "The Neutral Zone"; Star Trek: Star Charts)
From 2156 to 2160, the region was part of the main operational theatre during the Earth-Romulan War. (Star Trek: Star Charts)
A century later, in 2266, Sector Z-6 was the point where a Romulan bird-of-prey breached the Neutral Zone and destroyed several Federation outposts in order to test its new design of cloaking device. The vessel was eventually tracked and destroyed by the USS Enterprise. (TOS: "Balance of Terror")
