Sector 001, also known as the Sol sector was an area on the border between the Alpha and Beta Quadrants of the Milky Way Galaxy, containing the Sol system and the planet Earth. It was so numbered as the "local area" charted by early human spaceflight, and the neighboring sectors were named in order of their exploration. These naming conventions were adopted by the United Federation of Planets, and continued in use into the 25th century, though they had no relation to the Federation's overall sector designation system. Among the sectors bordering Sector 001 were the Alpha Centauri sector (aka Sector 002), Vulcan sector (aka Sector 005), the Andor sector, the Tellar sector, and the Sigma Draconis sector. (Star Trek: Star Charts)
