The Scorpius Reach was a large area of space in the Beta Quadrant stretching beyond Antares and the Upper Scorpius-Centaurus Association in the Beta Quadrant. The Reach was more than 800 light-years spinward and coreward (or to the galactic northeast) of Federation space. (TLE novel: The Buried Age)
Though long-range probes had made preliminary observations of the region, it was unexplored by Starfleet until the late 2350s. Even so, Captain Donald Varley was somewhat familiar with the region, having performed cursory surveys out in that direction. (TLE novel: The Buried Age)
