Star Trek: Pendragon Wiki

Peter James Kirk was a human male living in the 23rd century. He was the son of Sam and Aurelan Kirk, and had two brothers. His paternal uncle was the famous James T. Kirk. (TOS: "Operation -- Annihilate!")

Peter was born in April, 2254, the middle child of three boys. His older brother, Robert, was born circa 2247, and his younger brother, Andrew, in 2261, the same year as their cousin, David Marcus. (ST novel: Avenger; Star Trek: New Voyages: "Blood and Fire"; TOS novel: Sarek; Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)

For notes on the names and ages the three Kirk boys, see below.

He was one of the survivors of the neural parasite infestation on Deneva in 2267, in which his parents were killed. After being rescued by the USS Enterprise, he went to live with his grandmother in Iowa. (TOS: "Operation -- Annihilate!")

Unlike his brothers, Peter did not join Starfleet, though he did eventually work with them in a civilian capacity. He followed in his father's footsteps as a research biologist. By mid-2280s, he was considered quite accomplished in his field. In 2292, he served as chief research scientist aboard the USS Feynman studying an unusual subspace "black smoker" phenomenon and its unique ecosystem. When the Feynman and the research team became trapped by the anomaly, they were rescued by Peter's uncle and the USS Enterprise-A. Later, Starfleet sent a properly prepared follow-up expedition to study the smoker, with Peter again leading the research team. (TOS novel: Timetrap; TOS comic: "Bloodline")

Notes[]

  • TOS leaves Peter's brothers unnamed, and does not specify the birth order of the three boys, some sources specify that Peter was the oldest, some the youngest. Going by the age of the actor, Peter appeared to be around twelve or thirteen years of age in 2267, which fits well enough with his birthdate established in the novel Avenger.
  • Two excellent but conflicting portrayals of Peter exist in the novel Sarek by AC Crispin, and the Phase II fan film "Blood and Fire", written and directed by David Gerrold. The version in Sarek would make the character only six years old in his TOS appearance, which is far too young, whereas the Phase II version shows him as an ensign on the Enterprise only two years after his first appearance, which would make him several years too old.
  • In an effort to preserve at least the spirit of both Sarek and "Blood and Fire", Star Trek: Pendragon assumes that Peter is the middle brother, and the Ensign Kirk of Phase II is the elder, while the Cadet/Lieutenant Kirk of Sarek is the younger. Which one of the three was the Commander Kirk seen in Star Trek: Of Gods and Men in 2306 is not clear, though the producers' intent was that it was not Peter, and Pendragon assumes it to be the younger brother, named Andrew.
