Orion Prime (formally designated Pi-3 Orionis III, and also known as Orion III or simply Orion) was the third planet of the Pi3 Orionis or Orion system, and a homeworld of the Orion species, though perhaps not their original one. Though deep within Federation space, Orion remained staunchly neutral. It was a major center of commerce, finance and gambling, and was home to many casinos, as well as the Bank of Orion. One of its major cities was Kinarvon, on the far side of the planet from the capital. Orion Prime was the seat of the Orion Trade Union, a civilian government tacitly independent from the Orion Syndicate. While the Syndicate itself maintained a presence on Orion, its own headquarters was elsewhere and most of its operations took place on other worlds, from the nearby planet Coridan and the Beta Rigel system, to more distant worlds like Farius Prime, Nimbus III and beyond. In one alternate timeline, after his resurrection in the 2380s, Data lived on Orion Prime with his daughter Lal, "hiding in plain sight" under a number of false identities while maintaining the corporate empire his father had set up there. (TNG novel: The Light Fantastic)
