Norwell Nash was a human male living in the 24th century. He was descended from a long line of Starfleet officers, and was considered unofficial "royalty" within the fleet. He had a reputation as being "a closed-minded hardass," but also a tactical genius. A born "Starfleet brat" and career officer, he inspired much loyalty from those who served under him. (Shield of Tomorrow: "Becomes the Lion")
Nash's mother was a Starfleet captain, and both his father and great-grandfather were admirals. (SOT: "Becomes the Lion")
By 2371, Nash had risen to the rank of Vice Admiral. Because of their disability, he opposed the assignment of Commander Junil Rue to the position of first officer aboard the USS Sally Ride, but was overruled. He later came to realize that he had misjudged Rue, and apologized to them. (SOT: "I Remember", "Inquest")
The Sally Ride was a pet project of Nash's, and he maintained a vested interest in her activities. After the Leyton Affair, he had the Sally Ride assigned to a six-month exploration mission in the Shackleton Expanse, in the hopes of removing the science vessel from the potential theatre of conflict with the Dominion. (SOT: "Inquest", "Out of Bounds")
In 2372, Lieutenant Lassie LeClerc recognized Nash's name as someone who was not connected to Section 31, and who frequently butted heads with Starfleet Intelligence over their more "underhanded" tactics. (SOT: "Becomes the Lion")
In early 2374, his daughter, Lieutenant Tyler Nash, was killed when her ship, the USS Pacifica was lost with the Seventh Fleet. Nash stepped down and retired from Starfleet several months later. (DS9: "A Time to Stand"; SOT: "A Galaxy On Fire")
