New Romulus (also known as Mol'Rihan, Vastam or Dewa III) was a class M planet in the Dewa system. Romulan and Reman refugees settled there in 2409, establishing it as the capital of the Romulan Republic and a new homeworld for the survivors of the Romulan supernova.
The native species of Dewans had died out thousands of years earlier when the planet became uninhabitable due to extreme radiation. That radiation had receded to manageable levels by the early 25th century.
Shortly after settling the planet, the Romulan Republic discovered Iconian ruins underground, including a functional Iconian gateway. Over the next several years, the Tal Shiar launched numerous campaigns to subvert the Republic government, or outright conquer New Romulus, which included bringing in Hirogen mercenaries. The Tholian Assembly also sought to capture the planet in order to exploit the Iconian technology there. (Star Trek Online: Legacy of Romulus)
