IKS Qapla and USS Enterprise orbiting Needra
Needra was an inhabited Class M planet in its star system, located in neutral space between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire. It was home to the Needran civilization, and rich in mineral resources. The planet's capital city was Antile, and its ruler was the Crown Melak, who oversaw the Needran Assembly.
During the 2280s, the Needrans had entered into mining agreements with both the Federation and the Empire, supplying vital resources to their colonies in the region. The Needran government contracted with a private company to run their mining operations and provide transportation, headed by Director Sally Gallan.
Eventually Needran freighters became subject to raids from a then-unknown party, and the Needran government requested assistance from both powers. Starfleet and the Klingon Defense Force each sent a light cruiser to patrol the area and perform escort duties, but the raids continued over the course of several months.
In 2288, the USS Lafayette was heavily damaged in an ambush on the outskirts of the Needran system, and rescued by the IKS qul HoH. In response to the growing threat, Starfleet dispatched the USS Enterprise to Needra, while the KDF sent the IKS Qapla. Working together, the two crews were able to uncover the truth and put an end to the attacks. (TOS comic: Partners?)
