Star Trek: Pendragon Wiki

Narendra III was a Class M planet in the Narendra system. A Klingon colony world, it was located near the Klingon-Romulan border, and Federation space in the Canopus Core region. The planet's landmass was divided into twelve continents. (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise"; ENT: "Judgment"; Star Trek: Star Charts; Star Trek: Pendragon; Star Trek Online)

Some 90,000 years before the common era, the planet was known as Horbin, and it was an outpost of the Zalkat Union. (ST novel: The Brave and the Bold: The Third Artifact, The Final Artifact)

The Klingon colony on Narendra III was established long before the mid-22nd century. In 2152, Earth Starfleet Captain Jonathan Archer was put on trial at the Narendra colony for conspiring against the Empire, and sentenced to imprisonment on Rura Penthe. (ENT: "Judgment")

At its height, the Narendra colony had 47,000 inhabitants. (Star Trek Online)

During the mid-2260s, negotiations were held between the Klingon Empire and the Romulans at Narendra III. A treaty known as the Narendra Agreement was signed, and established a political and technological alliance between the empires. This relationship was always tumultuous and prone to conflict; by the late 2280s, the alliance had broken down completely and the treaty was abandoned. (LUG: The Way of D'era: The Romulan Star Empire)

In 2344, Narendra III was attacked by four D'Deridex-class Romulan warbirds. Answering the colony's distress call, the USS Enterprise-C arrived on scene and engaged the warbirds, in defense of the Klingons. Though both the Enterprise and the colony were destroyed, the heroic efforts of a Starfleet crew sacrificing themselves in battle to defend Klingon civilians helped strengthen the relationship between the Empire and the Federation. (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise")

The destruction of the Narendra III outpost would enable the Romulans to press further into Klingon space, leading to the attack on Khitomer in 2346. (Star Trek: Pendragon)

Undaunted, the Klingons would rebuild the colony. In 2353, while reconstruction was still underway, the Empire and the Federation held a summit on Narendra III where the Treaty of Alliance was signed. (LUG: All Our Yesterdays: The Time Travel Sourcebook)

By the 2370s, the colony had been fully rebuilt, and boasted dozens of cities with many thousands of colonists. (ST novel: The Brave and the Bold: The Final Artifact)

Legacy[]

The Battle of Narendra was commemorated by both the Empire and the Federation in numerous ways. Among them, the joint outpost Starbase 364 was dubbed "Narendra Station," and the Narendra class of Starfleet vessels was so named in honor of the colonists and the sacrifice of the Enterprise-C. (Star Trek Adventures; Star Trek Online)

Many songs and tales were sung and written about the colony, the battle, and the heroic sacrifice of the Enterprise-C, including a popular Klingon opera, which was the first time in the genre's history that Starfleet officers were portrayed as wholly honorable. (Star Trek: Pendragon)
