The multiverse is the term used to describe the group of theoretically infinite multiple universes. Together, these universes comprise the sum total of all reality. The matter of each universe resonated with a unique quantum signature, distinguishing it from that of other realities. As of 2370, more than 285,000 quantum realities were known to exist. It was further theorized that any number of multiverses might exist themselves within a larger "omniverse." (TNG: "Parallels")
The various realms within the multiverse could be referred to by different, mostly synonymous terms: alternate dimension, parallel universe, quantum reality, etc. Extra-dimensional realms such as fluidic space were also part of the multiverse.
Travel or "crossover" between universes could be accomplished through several means, including (but not limited to) quantum fissures, interphasic rifts, traversing the mycelial network or the time vortex, as well as certain types of transporter accidents. Beings such those of the Q Continuum were able to travel the multiverse at will. (TNG: "Parallels"; TOS: "Mirror, Mirror"; DS9: "Crossover"; ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly"; DSC: "Despite Yourself", et. al)
