Mantilles was a Class M world, the second planet of the the Pallas 14 star system in the Alpha Quadrant, near the "outer fringe" of the galaxy. It was home to a Federation colony, and as of 2369, was the most remote inhabited planet in the UFP. (TAS: "One of Our Planets Is Missing")

The planet had two moons, and the Pleiades were clearly visible in the night sky. The colony's capital was the city of Ravent. (The Worlds of the Federation; TAS: "One of Our Planets Is Missing"; TOS novel: Crucible: Provenance of Shadows)

Mantilles was recognized as a colonial member of the Federation in 2248. By the late 2260s, there were 82 million people living on the planet. (Star Trek Maps; TAS: "One of Our Planets Is Missing")

Following the M-5 computer incident in 2268, Commodore Robert Wesley retired from Starfleet, and took up the governorship of Mantilles. In actuality, his "retirement" was a temporary measure, as part of an undercover operation to expose suspected Tholian espionage. He would return to Starfleet by early 2270. (TAS: "One of Our Planets Is Missing"; TOS novel: Allegiance in Exile)

In 2269, the outer planet of the Pallas 14 system, Alondra was destroyed by an extragalactic cosmic cloud which was on course to consume Mantilles as well. The colony was saved thanks to the intervention of the USS Enterprise, when Commander Spock was able to mind-meld with the immense creature and convince it to leave the galaxy. (TAS: "One of Our Planets Is Missing")

By the early 2280s, Dr. Joanna McCoy had become the head of the Organ Donation, Synthesis and Transplant Department at Ravent General Hospital on Mantilles. (TOS novel: Crucible: Provenance of Shadows)

Circa 2334, future Starfleet officer Samaritan Bowers was born on Mantilles. While living there as a teenager, he began studying karate at the encouragement of his school counselor. (DS9 novel: Warpath; ST novel: A Singular Destiny)
