M'talas Prime (or simply M'talas) was a Class M world and the main inhabited planet of the M'talas system. It had a number of moons, some of which were ringed. Geopolitically, the planet was divided into several districts, such as District Six. (ENT: "Dawn"; PIC: "The Next Generation")
- The planet's name is apparently sometimes transliterated as "Matalas" as well. (ENT: "Dear Doctor")
Sometime prior to 2151, Dr. Phlox worked in a refugee camp on M'talas, where he was nearly overwhelmed by fifty refugees. (ENT: "Dear Doctor")
The Earth starship Enterprise (NX-01) visited M'talas Prime in 2151 or 2152. Chief Engineer Tucker was especially impressed by the beauty of the planet's ringed moons. (ENT: "Dawn")
During the 24th and 25th centuries, the planet was a hotbed of organized crime, centered around District Six. Sometime between 2385 and 2400, artist Jae Hwang moved to M'talas Prime and opened a bar in the district, which was then used by the crimelord Sneed for his illicit business dealings. (PIC: "Disengage")
In the 2400s, the planet still remained outside Federation jurisdiction, though a number of Federation citizens lived there. The V'Lashi crime syndicate, headed by the Vulcan Krinn, also had a heavy presence on the planet. (PIC: "Imposters")
In 2401, Starfleet opened a recruitment office in District Seven, which was subsequently destroyed with a quantum tunneling weapon stolen from Daystrom Station by a group of rogue Changeling terrorists led by Vadic. The attack resulted in 117 casualties. Commander Rafaela Musiker and Captain Worf were investigating the Daystrom theft, but discovered the terror plot too late to stop it.
