Star Trek: Pendragon Wiki

Khitomer was a Class-M planet in the Klingon Empire. A Klingon colony world, it was located near the Empire's borders with the Federation and the Romulans, and was the world for which the historic Khitomer Accords were named. (TNG: "Sins of the Father"; Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country; DS9: "The Way of the Warrior")

The planet was host to the historic Khitomer Conference in 2293, which took place at Camp Khitomer where the Accords were later signed, establishing peace between the UFP and the Empire. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country; TNG: "Unification I")

In 2346, on stardate 23859.7, a squadron of Romulan warbirds attacked the Klingon outpost on the planet. The colony was destroyed, resulting in the deaths of some 4,000 Klingons, many of whom were civilians. The incident became infamous as the Khitomer Massacre. Starfleet vessels, including the USS Intrepid responded to the colony's distress call, and were able to rescue two survivors, Kahlest, and a young child named Worf. Unbeknownst to them, a group of colonists had been captured by the Romulans, and were eventually taken to a prison camp on Carraya IV. (TNG: "Sins of the Father", "Birthright, Part I", "Birthright, Part II")

The colony was eventually rebuilt, and its capital was Khitomer City. A memorial obelisk was placed at the site of the original colony. (ST novel: Gods of Night; VOY: "Memorial")

Prior to 2375, Starfleet Admiral William Ross once met Chancellor Gowron on Khitomer. (DS9: "When It Rains...")

In the 25th century, the planet became the headquarters of the Khitomer Alliance, a joint effort between the Federation, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Republic, and their allies. (Star Trek Online)

Background[]

  • Some sources, including Star Trek Online, state the Romulans captured Khitomer after the massacre, and the Klingons only retook the planet sometime later (2382, per STO). This is inconsistent with references in TNG and DS9, though an Okudagram in "Birthright, Part II" did show Khitomer within Romulan space at the time.
