Eisn or Ket-cheleb was a star with a planetary system in the Beta Quadrant. Known by a number of other names, including Romulus and 128 Trianguli to the Federation, it was orbited by four planets, including the worlds Romulus and Remus, the hearthworlds of the Romulan Star Empire. The literal translation of the name Eisn from Rihannsu was "homesun".
During their long journey from Vulcan, the travelers who would become known as Romulans discovered the system almost by chance, after more than a hundred years of wandering and the loss of most of their fleet. From their vantage point, it was seen past an orange binary system, amidst a cluster of K type dwarf stars which formed a "rosette" shape. (TOS novel: The Romulan Way; LUG: The Way of D'era: The Romulan Star Empire; ST novel: Vulcan's Soul: Exiles)
In 2387, the star erupted in a supernova that destroyed its system and rendered many worlds within a sphere of 10 light years uninhabitable. The supernova would have kept expanding through subspace, its effects propagating farther. To prevent this, Ambassador Spock of Vulcan used red matter to collapse Eisn into a self-terminating singularity, though he was too late to save the Romulan hearthworlds.
