Cydonia was a region on the planet Mars, and the name of the human colony established there. In the 20th century, photographs of certain geological features in the region, including the so-called "face of Mars" and several others which resembled the Great Pyramids of Giza, inspired speculation of ancient civilizations on Mars.
By the mid-23rd century, Cydonia was a fast-growing city. Dr. Jane Fisher first established her medical practice there. (VAN novel: Reap the Whirlwind)
By the 24th century, New Cydonia was another part of the colony. (HF: "Epitaph")
The Federation starship USS Cydonia, commanded by Pavel Chekov was named for the region. (ST novel: The Return)
