Coppelius (pronounced ka-PAY-lee-us), also known as Ghulion IV, was a Class M planet in the Ghulion system. Smaller and denser than Earth, it was subject to constant electrical storms, and possessed two red-colored moons. The main settlement was Coppelius Station, which was situation in a desert-like scrub-land environment.
The planet's name was given to it by its inhabitants, Altan Inigo Soong and Bruce Maddox, and their created race of synthetic lifeforms. Prior to 2399, the Federation only knew it by a numerical designation. (PIC: "Nepenthe", "Broken Pieces", "Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 1")
- According to Michael Chabon, Coppelius is a reference to the short story "The Sandman", written by E.T.A. Hoffman in 1816. [1]
Appendices[]
Location[]
The planet is located approximately 25 light-years from the aperture of the transwarp conduit nearest to Nepenthe. That conduit was approximately nine hours away from Nepenthe at La Sirena's maximum speed, and Nepenthe was in raiding distance of the Kzinti.
