Catherine Sakai was a human female living in the 23rd century.
She was born in Alaska on Earth in 2224, but moved to Hong Kong with her mother when her parents divorced. After her mother passed away, she moved back to Alaska to live with her father again for a short time, though she remained in contact with her aunt in Hong Kong. As a child, she had always been fascinated by the stars and was passionate about traveling in space.
Sakai joined Starfleet in 2242. In her second year at the Academy in San Francisco, she met Jeffrey Sinclair. She later remembered their encounter being "love at first sight," and the two began and on-again, off-again relationship that would last for more than 15 years.
Catherine left Starfleet after the Four Years War, and began a career as an independent surveyor, contracting with various mining corporations. She bought a Class J freighter, christened it the Skydancer, and had it refit as a survey craft. (Star Trek: Pendragon)
During her time apart from Sinclair, Sakai was briefly married and had a child. In Valen's universe, her child died at an early age, which sent Catherine into a two-year depression. (Babylon 5)
