The Carraya sector was a region of space in the Beta Quadrant, one of several sectors where the borders of United Federation of Planets and Romulan Star Empire met. Located in the Thread of space between the main body of the Federation and the Canopus Core, it was adjacent to the Azure and Qiris sectors, not far from the Triangle and the Klingon Empire. The Carraya system was the sector's primary point of interest, and it also contained a portion of the Azure Nebula. (TNG: "Birthright, Part I"; Star Trek: Star Charts)
Following the destruction of Romulus and the collapse of the Star Empire, the Carraya sector became neutral space. Romulan survivors settled on a number of worlds in the sector, and the influx of refugees also brought an increase in piracy and other criminal activities from those who sought to prey on the weak. With the Federation and Starfleet looking to their own affairs, the defense of the sector's colonies was taken on by the Fenris Rangers. (Star Trek: Pendragon)
