Star Trek: Pendragon Wiki

Canopus IV (Alpha Carinae IV), was the fourth planet in the Canopus system. A Class M world, it was the home of the Canopian species. Known colloquially as the Canopus Planet, it was a member of the United Federation of Planets since the late 22nd century. By the mid-23rd century, it was the most prominent world of the "Canopus Core" of Federation space in the Beta Quadrant. (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before"; TOS novel: Yesterday's Son; Star Trek: Pendragon)

After first contact with humanity, Canopus Planet became a popular destination for vacations and shore leave among Earth Cargo Service and Starfleet crews. The Canopians opened their world to immigration, and by the early 23rd century, there was a sizeable human population on Canopus Planet, along with members of various other species. (TNG novel: A Time for War, A Time for Peace; SCE novel: Cold Fusion)

Canopus Planet had a temperate climate, several major landmasses, and garnet-colored seas. Sailing and surfing those seas were popular activities there. The planet was also known for its antique shops, which were favored by James T. Kirk in his search for old hardcopy books. (TLE novel: Serpents Among the Ruins; DS9 novel: Twilight; TOS novel: Yesterday's Son)

A major trade route from Gamma Hydra ran to Canopus Planet. (Star Trek: Pendragon)

When passage through the Klingon Empire was blocked during the Federation-Klingon War of 2372-2373, travel between Canopus and the main Federation core necessitated either going the long way around Romulan space towards Gamma Hydra, venturing far above or below the galactic plane, or traversing a route through the Triangle between the three major powers.
