The Barzans were a humanoid species from the planet Barzan II. Their governing body was the Barzanian Planetary Republic, which was headed by a premier. The Barzans were known to the Federation by the mid-23rd century, but did not join until sometime in the 25th century. (TNG: "The Price"; DSC: "Die Trying")
Barzan blood was black in color. When traveling off their home planet, they required the use of a breathing apparatus to provide them with nutrient gasses not found in a standard Class-M atmosphere. (TNG: "The Price"; DSC: "Project Daedalus")
