Doctor Andrea Redgrave was the human identity assumed by a Douwd, taking the role of a scientist in the mid-to-late 24th century. After crossing into the prime reality, she worked with the Daystrom Institute, and designed the EXEO hologram, which she considered to be both her life's work, and her "child." (Clear Skies: "Prologue", "The Only Thing Constant, Part 3")
While living as a human, Redgrave married Starfleet officer Norwell Nash. They had a daughter, Tyler, who was killed in action during the Dominion War. Tyler's appearance would later become an inspiration for EXEO's own. (Clear Skies: "Who We Are, Part 2", "The Only Thing Constant, Part 3"; Shield of Tomorrow)
Redgrave traversed the multiverse (through the mycelial network and other means) searching for the missing technology that would let her complete her work. She broke a number of "universal laws" set in place by higher beings in pursuit of her aims, and subsequently manipulated temporal anomalies and alternate timelines in order to throw off pursuit from the Q Continuum, This resulted in her own history and timeline becoming somewhat fractured and paradoxical. (Clear Skies: "By Any Other Name", "The Only Thing Constant, Part 3")
Redgrave had seen the repeating pattern of history where organic beings created artificial life, only for those creations to turn on their creators and destroy biological life within the universe. She recognized the prime reality was coming to a tipping point in that cycle. In creating EXEO, she hoped give the universe a "good first impression", a purely positive example of artificial life, who could evolve to become their own person, to prove that beings like Data and the Doctor were not mistakes or accidents. (Clear Skies: "The Only Thing Constant, Part 3")
At one point, Redgrave hid from the Q Continuum on a hellish, volcanic planet. While there, she was approached by two agents of the Temporal Defense Initiative who sought her help in transferring the consciousnesses of a dead civilization from their holographic storage into the databanks of the Dyson Sphere discovered by the Federation in 2369. The alien technology allowed her to finally finish her work. (Clear Skies: "New Beginnings, New Endings, Part 2")
Redgrave acquired additional necessary technologies from the Dominion, the Mirror Universe, and the mycelial realm. (Clear Skies: "Farther from Home, Part 6", "Who We Are, Part 2", "By Any Other Name")
She finally saw the culmination of her work when EXEO was assigned as the first officer of the USS Ross in 2381. (Clear Skies: "Prologue")
In 2382, Redgrave revealed her true nature to EXEO, and turned herself in to the Continuum so they would spare EXEO's life. (Clear Skies: "The Only Thing Constant, Part 3")
Appearance[]
In the 2380s, she was described as "about 5'7", probably in her late 60s, with her hair pulled back in a ponytail...with faded freckles, and lines around her eyes." Her hair, at that time, was a platinum blonde, though in her youth it had been a rich red color. She also "smoked" holographic cigarettes, to help with anxiety. (Clear Skies: "Prologue")
