Aia, also called the Grief Planet, was a world deep within Romulan space. Hundreds of thousands of years before the 24th century, Aia was placed at the center of an engineered octonary star system eventually known to the Romulans as the Eightfold Stars or the Conclave of Eight. It was the site of the Admonition, a message concerning the fate of synthetic life in the galaxy.
Many generations before 2385, Romulans discovered Aia and formed the Zhat Vash to keep the secret of the Admonition, and seek out and destroy all synthetic lifeforms. (PIC: "Broken Pieces")
