Acamar, also known as Theta Eridani, was a binary star system in the Azure sector of the Beta Quadrant, approximately 167 light years from Sol. (Star Trek: Star Charts; Star Trek Online)
The system contained four planets. Acamar I and Acamar II were Class L, while Acamar III was Class M and home to the Acamarian civilization. Acamar IV was a Class J gas giant. There was also a dense asteroid belt between the third and fourth planets, and an extensive Oort cloud at the rim of the system. (LUG: Planets of the UFP)
Though an independent system, Acamar was well within the boundaries of the United Federation of Planets, and as such was never dragged into interstellar conflicts between the UFP and its neighbors in the 23rd and 24th centuries. It was, however, close to the Borderland of Orion space, and a relatively short distance from The Triangle and the Romulan Neutral Zone. The system possessed great mineral wealth, in magnesite as well as other ores, was a subject of interest among the neighboring systems and powers. (LUG: Planets of the UFP; Star Trek: Star Charts)
