The following events occurred in the year 2388 according to the Earth calendar and corresponds to the stardate period 65000 to 65999.

Events[]

  • The fallout of the Romulan supernova, both literal and metaphoric, dominates interstellar events and galactic politics this year. Three separate worlds claim to be the new "capital" of the Romulan Star Empire, including Rator III, Achernar Prime and Abraxas V. The remnants of the empire, including the Tal Shiar and the Romulan Star Navy fall into factionalized infighting. With the losses of both Sela and Donatra, Admiral Taris is seen as the strongest voice among the Imperial Fleet. (STO: The Path to 2409)

Personal[]

Assignments and promotions[]

  • Admiral Victor Bordson retires from Starfleet, and the position of Commander-in-Chief passes to another member of Starfleet Command. (PIC novel: The Last Best Hope)
The date is conjecture, but it is said that Bordson "hung on for a few years" after the attack on Utopia Planitia, even though his heart was no longer in the job. His immediate successor is unknown, though it is possibly Leonard James Akaar.
  • Kirsten Clancy is promoted to the admiralty. Within the next decade, she will rise to the rank of C-in-C herself. (PIC novel: The Last Best Hope)
  • Naomi Wildman enters Starfleet Academy.
Conjecture. The Litverse says she joined in 2381, at age 9, STO says 2392 at age 20. This year, Naomi is 16, still younger than the average human freshman cadet, because of her Ktarian heritage. The Romulan situation, and Icheb's death are probably prime factors in her wanting to join Starfleet.

The Path to 2409[]

  • 19 July (stardate 65548.43): K'Dhan, the son of Worf and Grilka, is born on Qo'noS. He is the half-brother of both Alexander Rozhenko and Koren. (STO: The Path to 2409)
  • When approached by the Federation for support in the Romulan relief efforts, Chancellor Martok of the Klingon Empire refuses to provide any aid to the Romulans, stating: ""The Klingons will offer no treaty, no aid, and no hand that is not holding a blade." Analysts report that at this juncture, Federation-Klingon relations are at the lowest point they have been since the Empire withdrew from the Khitomer Accords in 2372. (STO: The Path to 2409)
  • Melani D'ian of the Orion Syndicate enters into secret negotiations with various parties within the Klingon Empire, including several members of the Klingon High Council. (STO: The Path to 2409)

Possibilities[]

  • Kellessar zh'Tarash of Andor becomes Federation President, defeating the incumbent. She reaffirms the Federation's commitments to its allies, and promises that exploration will be the goal in the rebuilding of Starfleet. One of her first acts is to drop the charges against Julian Bashir and offer him the reinstatement of his commission, if he should so desire.
In the Litverse, zh'Tarash became president in 2385, under much different circumstances.
  • President zh'Tarash tries to negotiate with the various Romulan factions to provide aide to the survivors and struggling colonies, but in light of the Federation's cessation of the relief mission three years earlier, her efforts are met with suspicion and rebuffed by most. Some individual colonies agree to accept Federation aide, but none of the "official" governments will engage with the UFP, and demand that all Federation vessels remain out of the Empire's territory. The Federation Council decides to adopt an official "hands-off" policy towards the entire situation, declaring it an internal Romulan matter, and while requests for aid from independent colonies will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, none of the remnant faction governments will be officially recognized. This policy greatly restricts the efforts of organizations like Médecins Sans Frontières. (conjecture/extrapolation)
  • In contrast, Bajor, having remained independent of the Federation, and quite vocal in its opposition to the Federation's abandonment of the Romulan people forms a coalition of other independent powers, including the Ferengi Alliance, and even the Cardassian Union, themselves still recovering, which is successful in negotiating with the nascent government of the so-called Romulan Free State to provide aide, however limited, to the worlds under its control. (conjecture/extrapolation)
  • After the charges against him are dropped, Doctor Julian Bashir returns to Starfleet duty. Seeking a fresh start aboard a new ship, Bashir and his wife, Commander Ezri Dax, take the posts of chief medical officer and first officer, respectively, aboard the USS Emmett Till. (conjecture, extrapolated from DS9 novel: Enigma Tales and the What We Left Behind documentary)
