- circa 7 January: Ensign Spock is assigned to the USS Enterprise as science officer under Captain Christopher Pike. (ST: "Q&A"; TOS novel: Vulcan's Glory*)
- Eight days after Chapter One of Vulcan's Glory. According to Spock in TOS: "The Menagerie, Part I", he served with Pike for '11 years, four months, five days. The novel Captain's Peril states he served aboard the Enterprise for '11 years, nine months, fifteen days'. The discrepancy could be rationalized to take into account Pike's undercover Orion assignment or his temporary command of Discovery in 2258.
- 2 March: John Sheridan is promoted to the rank of Captain, taking command of the USS Agamemnon. (Babylon 5)
